Editorial and disclosure

How a piece is checked, and what gets declared.

Last updated 21 September 2026

Most publications put their standards on a page nobody reads and then ask you to take the rest on faith. The test of this one is whether you can check it from the pieces themselves, so everything below shows up in the work rather than only here.

Every piece says what it could not stand up

Each piece ends with a block that itemises what we confirmed, what we corrected, and what we could not verify, each one labelled. Not a general disclaimer. The actual claims, named, with the ones that did not hold up left in.

It is there because the alternative is a piece that reads as though everything in it is equally solid, which is never true. A reader who knows which half is shaky can use the other half.

One fact you cannot get from their own website

A profile that could have been assembled from somebody’s about page has failed, and does not run. Every piece carries at least one thing the subject does not publish about themselves. That is the floor, not the ambition.

Nothing is asserted about somebody’s misfortune

When a mill closed, a business failed or a trade died out, we say what is documented, say plainly where the record is silent, and ask the people involved. We do not infer a closure from a quiet website or a decline from an old photograph.

Gifts, loans and anything paid for

If a maker gives us something, lends us something, pays for travel, or pays for anything at all, it is disclosed in the piece itself, at the point it matters, rather than in small type at the bottom. A jacket we were given is called a jacket we were given, in the paragraph about the jacket.

There are no affiliate links on this site and no paid placements. No subject has ever paid to appear and none ever will. If any of that changes, it changes in public, on this page and in the pieces.

Nobody gets copy approval. A subject can correct a fact before publication, and that is a different thing from approving the piece.

Photographs

A piece about a place shows photographs taken in that place, or it waits. No stock standing in for a workshop, no generated image passed off as a photograph, and nothing composited to look like somewhere it is not. Where an image is illustration, it is artwork and looks like artwork.

Everything on this site that is not ours yet is listed on the credits page.

Every usable frame of a subject goes to that subject, unwatermarked, before we ask them for anything. It costs us nothing and it is the whole basis on which people let us in.

Corrections

Write to hello@lisheenaleen.com and say what is wrong and where. A correction is made on the piece and shown on the piece, dated, with what it replaced. A piece that has been quietly edited after publication is a piece you cannot trust, so we do not quietly edit pieces.

Typographical fixes are just fixed. Anything that changes a fact gets a dated note.

Irish on the page

No Irish goes on a page, a caption or a product unless it has been checked against a citable source. A fada in the wrong place is the kind of mistake this publication cannot afford to make.
